The practice was started in the year 2000 by Dianne and Tricia who felt there was a shortage of independent, chartered physiotherapists in West Cumbria. Initially we rented the ground floor of 16 Main Street, Patrick joining us in 2002 when we became a limited company with three directors. In 2004 we purchased the building and renovated the upstairs.
Steve Gunn hires a room for his own patients two evenings a week and Zoe Lamour, a chiropodist, also hires a room in the centre. As the company has grown we are able to have more clerical support so Penny is regularly in assisting us in this role.
Dianne Allan MCSP Since qualifying as a chartered physiotherapist in Leeds in 1974 I have worked in various environments which have included the NHS, a cerebral palsy charity (now Scope), and the private sector. During this time I have developed expertise in a broad range of conditions including neurology, paediatrics, obstetrics and elderly and disabled care. In recent years I have specialised in treatments of migraine and headaches. I use a combination of myofascial release and Dean Watson's mobilising methods. I have been practicing acupuncture for over 20 years and find the energy measuring and balancing methods (voll) can be very useful for some complex problems. I am a regional representative for the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and a full member of the European Federation of Modern Acupuncture.

MCSP Qualifying from the United Liverpool Hospitals School of Physiotherapy in 1963, I initially worked within the NHS gaining experience in inpatient and outpatient departments as well as specialist units at various hospitals. I then moved on to work in the community and later into health care in industry as a member of the occupational team at BNFL. This varied background allowed my early interest in orthopaedics and musculo-skeletal conditions to develop into the areas of sports injuries, neck and back problems, joint pain, soft tissue problems and the importance of biomechanics and ergonomics at work, in the home and in sport and recreation. A long-term interest in the horse and riding has led to a particular interest in the muscle balance and core stability required to ride correctly and the problems which can arise from them and working on the family farm has given me hands-on experience of the results of poor lifting & handling techniques.
